The French newspaper, Le Monde in its online
edition, wrote a very unflattering article last march 13 2015 citing the
reasons for which President Paul BIYA went for a private visit to Europe.
According to Le Monde’s online article, President
Paul Biya was in Europe for medical attention, and was said to be suffering
from prostate cancer. Mrs Chantal Biya, on her part, was said to be meeting her
doctors for a check–up, after allegedly undergoing surgery in 2013 to treat
cervical cancer. Le Monde in that article equally alleged that the presidential
couple left Yaounde separately, and were in different countries for their
medical conditions.
The online article was update three times.
The Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary
and Government spokesperson, has not take this lying down. Speaking during a
press conference, last March 16, 2015, in Yaounde, he strongly condemned the
publication. Issa Tchiroma Bakary qualified Le Monde’s article as
misinformation, and attempt to ruin the reputation of the presidential couple.
