Donga Mantung Fons: Their Time To Head NOWEFU Is Now; Will It Be The Fon Of Binka, Fon Of Mbot, Fon Of Ndu, Fon Of Kungi, Fon Of Binshua, Fon Of Tabenken Etc?

Donga Mantung Fons

The mandate of the executive of North West Fons’ Union (NOWEFU) has expired. NOWEFU leadership has had five successive Fons from five of the seven Divisions of the North West Region as its President. Starting first with Fon Abumbi of Bafut (Mezam), Second with Fon Sehm Mbinglo of Nso (Bui), third with Fon Chafah XI of Bangolan (Ngoketunjia), fourth with Fon Francis Aneng of Bafmen (Menchum), and fifth with Fon Senator Teche of Ngye Muwa (Momo), Donga Mantung is now expected to produce the sixth NOWEFU President.

When President Paul BIYA in 2010 confessed to the Fons of the North West that when the Senate would be put in place, NOWEFU leadership would be made Senator and it actually happened, Fon Teche the then NOWEFU President became Senator, so by this argument, in 2018 a Fon from Donga Mantung would as well be appointed Senator. It is on record that the rotatory NOWEFU Presidency has seen the divisions of Mezam, Bui, Ngoketunjia, Menchum and Momo at the helm. Only Donga Mantung and Boyo are left. Donga Mantung's time is now to produce the next NOWEFU President. During the voting in November, votes from Momo, where Fon Teche hails, can dictate who become NOWEFU’S next President and Senator in April 2018. Momo Division is therefore poised to dictate the pace in November 2015 for NOWEFU Presidency, which undoubtedly is a Fon from Donga Mantung Division. Since votes from the Fons of Momo will dictate the  fon of Binka, Mbot, Tabenken, Kungi, Nkambe, Ndu etc who has backing and blessings  Momo Fons would carry the day in November.
Senator Fon Teche who doubles as senate bureau member said he has already summoned an executive meeting to hold in Nkambe in two weeks for members to finalise plans for a hitch-free elective general assembly in November.
He added that he was personally mobilizing funds to organize the elective assembly that will cost not less than two million francs. The NOWEFU boss said for the first time, the elective general assembly will hold in Donga Mantung division. It should be said that going by the NOWEFU constitution, the next president general should come from Donga Mantung division.
Reacting to the development that it was his own secretary general who is pressing for an elective assembly this March, Fon Teche said he’s being manipulated by a handful of those he referred to as trouble-makers and power-mongers within the union.
“Trying to let the world know that I am hanging on to the NOWEFU leadership is utterly misleading, smacks of bad faith and is same as giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it…I am quite aware my mandate at the helm of NOWEFU is over but I need time and money to ensure a peaceful and successful handover to my successor…”
Asked why he has for three years during his tenure never summoned a general assembly to brief members on the financial situation and activities of NOWEFU, Fon Teche recalled with anger that a planned general assembly in 2013 was punctured by those he said called themselves Council of Elders who attempted but failed to pass a no-confidence vote on him.
“I got angry and decided that I will present my financial records only to the executive. I felt so betrayed to the point I didn’t have the courage to mobilize funds or use that which was raised to complete the NOWEFU secretariat project…every franc I collected for the secretariat project will be accounted for in two weeks’ time when my executive meets in Nkambe,” Fon Teche said.
NOWEFU secretariat
While Fon Teche insist that the elective general assembly must hold only on the second week of November; citing the union’s constitution, his secretary general, citing the same constitution says his president is not telling the entire story. To Fon Ndofua Zofua, Fon Teche wants to prolong his stay at the helm of NOWEFU in order to continue to reap undeserved benefits.
But Fon Teche boasted that he has nothing to gain remaining at the helm of NOWEFU for the next eight months. He, it should be noted, is the only traditional ruler in Cameroon who is CPDM section president. He is equally a CPDM central committee member and a bureau member of the senate.
His supporters within NOWEFU claim the traditional ruler enjoys a lot of favour and admiration from Yaoundé authorities for ensuring that his Momo II section where he is president, bought the highest number of CPDM party cards in the North West region.

400 Million FCFA Budgeted For Françoise Foning’s Funeral

CPDM, Foning’s family disagree over who manages the 400 Million FCFA budgeted for her funeral.
Foning’s eldest son, Salomon Tsobgny has said he is the one with the legitimate right supposed to collect and manage contributions from sympathizers and not CPDM officials.

Public Documents on Southern Cameroons Unification From Pro, XII By Verkijika Fanso

Our 12th PRO document (CO554/2265XC3406, dated July 21st 1961) is the continuation of the Foumban Constitutional Talks, the second and closing Session of the Conference. The speeches by Ahidjo, Foncha and Endeley deal with what has been accomplished during the Conference, leaving other matters not covered for the forthcoming tripartite talks in Yaounde in August 1961. The frankness and spirit of fraternity demonstrated in the speeches makes one to wonder why things changed against Southern Cameroons after unification on 1st October 1961.
FOUMBAN CONFERENCE
SECOND SESSION 4:45PM JULY 21ST 1961
HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT AHIDJO
I declare the Session open. The floor is given to the Prime Minist of the Southern Cameroons.
Your Excellency, I wish to make just a few remarks on the proposals we made on the draft proposal submitted for the Southern Cameroons delegation. I do not wish to comment on all of the points we have presented to you, but it is my place just to say the spirit in which we make those recommendations. For three days, we sat over the papers Your Excellency produced for us and we looked into all the clauses and we found many things quite agreeable to us and we found some, though agreeable, needed some little suggestion from us and we did so. We had heated debate on some of the points and I can assure you that it stemmed from the fact that we wished to produce the best for our country. Our recommendation, therefore, has nothing inamicable but something we feel the future Federation of Cameroon will be proud of if we take the pains to reason well and put down just what is practicable.
I do not at this stage want to claim that we are perfect in our recommendation but I want to assure you that what we suggest is not far from being perfect if Your Excellency and your party will consider those points seriously and take them. I want to remark this: that the recommendation we made stem out of the brotherly feeling we have towards the Republic of Cameroon. We feel that we are building our house, and not building a house for anybody, and any suggestion that we make to strengthen that house you may be sure stems from our very best interest.
I must be frank and say that in my opinion we have done a greater part of the Constitutional points which should be agreed upon if we all can agree upon the points so far produced. I envisage a further meeting, but the meeting will merely be to iron out the few words which are not understood either by you or by us and to add some of the things which we might not have put properly. I have said that I do not want to make any comments on all that is put down here, but this general remark, then, will give the floor to Your Excellency also. But perhaps before Your Excellency speaks, it would be necessary for Dr. Endeley, Leader of the Opposition, to reaffirm some of the things which I have said with regard to the draft.
DR. E.M.L ENDELEY
Mr. President, Honourable Ministers, Gentlemen, I have great pleasure to associating myself with my colleague, the Premier of Southern Cameroons. I must say that in my last talk I said we were here with an open heart and to work as a team. We have succeeded in working as a team in looking through the proposals which were placed by your Government before the Southern Cameroons delegation.
There were proposals which were the result of great thought by experts, legal experts, and therefore, it took more time than we thought it would take. We do not presume that we have found the answer to the problems which will unify the two Cameroons, but we have given an indication of what we think and what we feel. All we request is that you should receive our proposals as an indication of our good intentions and goodwill for a union. It is like a young brother who is anxious to live with an elder brother. If the elder brother receives him very coldly or doesn’t give him any encouragement he may feel very discouraged. Much of the desire of the people of Southern Cameroons to unite with their brothers will depend on the attitude of the Republic of Cameroon and the manner in which they treat these proposals.
I am very happy for one thing, and for this, I have again to thank the Sultan of Foumban and his people. That we have been able to continue our discussion in very good humour and under very happy atmosphere. We do not feel that we are in a strange country at all. And this, I think we owe to the friendliness and the peaceful atmosphere of Foumban. In the midst of work we have been able to relax.
Finally, Mr. President, I would wish to say one thing and this I would try to convey through you. This is to our brothers who have gone wild in the bush. If I, as Opposition Leader, and my colleague can reconcile with Mr. Foncha, I cannot see why those who are the opposition and have gone will in the bush cannot reconcile with your government. I have had great reason to feel that Mr. Foncha is an enemy to me and I would not work together with him, as the terrorists have failed against President Ahidjo.
We have come to set an example, that by working together we can make a better country. If by this example which I have set with my colleague, we cannot produce a peaceful Cameroon, then we will be a laughing stock to the country.
Many people thought that this Conference would be a failure and that it would not work, as it is the first Conference and it has succeeded.
I am convinced that all other conferences after this will succeed. And therefore, Mr. President, I am appealing to those brothers who have gone wild to cease fire and cooperate with us and come back to help make Cameroon a peaceful country. We should not use our arms against our brothers; we should use them against our enemies.
Mr. President, I do not believe that what we have taken four days to answer you might find an answer to every clause that we have put before you. As my colleague, the Premier, said, we only concentrated in dealing with the more urgent matters which would make union on 1st October possible. There are other matters which I think we can treat as secondary and which we can deal with later on.

Finally, Mr. President, on behalf of my colleagues, I am very grateful for the indulgence you have given us to look through your papers and your proposals at a time which was convenient to us. I pledge our loyalty and determination to be at your service any time you wish, any time you think necessary for the betterment of Southern Cameroons. Thank you very much.

Samuel Eto`o Wins Anti-Racism Award

The former Cameroon and Barcelona striker received the medal in Kensington Palace, the home of Britain’s Prince William and his wife Kate.
The award to the football star was considered on his inspiring stand against racism in his football career from Real Madrid and presently Sampdoria.
Eto’o, 33, famously tried to walk off the pitch during a Spanish match due to an incident of racist abuse.
He recorded a similar racist case recently with the actions of Chelsea and West Ham fans during his last two contracts with Chelsea and Everton.
In 2005 while playing for Barcelona, Eto’o was heavily and racially abused by Real Zaragoza fans, who made monkey chants whenever he touched the ball.
According to the Laureate, 2014 was particularly a challenging one in terms of hate and racism in his football career.
He thinks that football is a universal game and should not be exercised on multi-racial backgrounds.
Eto’o has won the Champions League three times, four domestic championships and the Club World Cup.
Now retired from international football, he is Cameroon’s top goal scorer with 56 from 118 caps, and has won the Africa Cup of Nations twice as well as an Olympic gold medal.
Founded in 2008, the ECTR’s first Medal of Tolerance was conferred in 2010 on king Juan Carlos I of Spain, with the second given jointly to Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and former Serbian President Boris Tadic.

Hacking Of The Website Of the Presidency Of The Republic

Press release of the Minister of Communication
This Wednesday, March 11, 2015, some national media as well as cyber newspapers and numerous social networks, relaying a news that the official website of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon, would have presented the Head of State in the process of honor our fallen soldiers on the battlefield against the terrorist organization Boko Haram in the bodies of these soldiers raising ceremony, which was held in the Court of Honour of the Brigade Headquarters on Friday March 6, 2015 in Yaounde.

The Minister of Communication brings the lie to this new unfounded.

Indeed, this ceremony was then that the knowledge of all national public opinion, the Head of State had visited Europe as part of a private residence on Sunday, March 01st, 2015 and that it still remains there to this day.

It is on Very High Instructions of His Excellency the President of the Republic, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, chaired by its name, the memorial service of 06 March.

All verifications made, the false attributed to the official website of the Presidency of the Republic is the result of a coarse photomontage, which is the work of a hacker broke on that site, and no doubt motivated by the desire to undermine the honor and dignity of the Head of State of our defense and security forces and the Cameroonian nation as a whole.

This vile maneuver comes as the Cameroonian people as a whole, decided to form a united front of the head of state and defense and security forces which he is the head, probably to create diversion and distraction, trying to undermine the morale of the troops on the war front and demobilizing the entire nation in the great spirit of solidarity that is being manifested.

The Minister of Communication therefore invites journalists and national media to more circumspection, discernment, critical and civic responsibility, in the understanding and treatment of certain information which they know, and more, when Such information affecting the strategic area of defense and state security.

Boko Haram: US "Robust Support” On The Way

The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for African Affairs, Amanda Dory, was received by the Minister of External Relations in Yaounde.
“Robust Support” from the United States of America (U.S.A.) to Cameroon’s Defence Forces is “arriving” within the framework of previously planned and future projects between the US and Cameroon in the fight against the terrorist group, Boko Haram, in the Far North Region.
The visiting US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for African Affairs, Amanda Dory, was speaking yesterday, March 10, 2015, in Yaounde after an audience with the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo. She equally revealed that the US is providing diplomatic support in terms of engagement in the UN Security Council for the awaited resolution authorising the deployment of a Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTC) by the African Union against Boko Haram.
More so, Amanda Dory and her delegation, comprising defence officials from Washington D.C. and Stuttgart (Federal Republic of Germany), lauded the leadership that Cameroon has shown in terms of peacekeeping deployment, particularly under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Long-time maritime security engagement by both countries and Cameroon’s leadership in the Gulf of Guinea also featured in the discussions. “The Code of Conduct is something we have found much time collaborating on,” Amanda Dory revealed.
Earlier on, Minister Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo received the designated Ambassador of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria, H.E. Merzak Bedjaoui. The latter came to present advance copies of his letters of credence as incoming Algerian Ambassador to Cameroon. Ambassador Merzak Bedjaoui was appointed as Algeria’s Ambassador to Cameroon last November 2014. Until then, he served as the Director of Western Europe in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He had equally served in several diplomatic missions, especially as Ambassador to Sweden from 2004.

Increasing Competition In Mobile Telephony

History will record that it's finally March 11, 2015, the mobile operator MTN Cameroon has got the government to renew its license for a period of 15 years.
Previous concession agreement for the establishment and operation of the mobile electronic communications network, obtained in 2000, expired on 15 February 2015. Long before, about two months earlier, MTN Cameroon and the Government of the Republic had nevertheless initiated renewal negotiations with likely disagreements on the cost of the license. It was "a long and difficult period of negotiation, each party seeking to defend its interests," admitted yesterday the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL) at the official ceremony to renew the license of MTN Cameroon. Jean-Pierre Biyiti bi Essam was so pleased that "finally all's well that ends well, as we are gathered here today (yesterday Editor's note), to celebrate the successful conclusion of the negotiations." The renewal price was finally arrested 75 billion francs, payable according to a schedule that spans six months, as of 11 March 2015. The second deadline will be released on April 11 and the last on 11 September.
However, before the signing of the new license phase, yesterday's ceremony began with the presentation of 75 billion francs in check by MTN Cameroon Government, represented by five of its members, including the MINPOSTEL and the Minister of Finance (Minfi). MTN Cameroon side, there was the president of the Board of Directors (PCA) Colin E. Mukete and the CEO of the company, Karl O. Toriola. The latter states that "the new license gives further opportunity to exploit new technologies for the global development of telecommunications, including 3G and 4G." For him, "this franchise agreement will bring more modernity, wealth and progress to the people of Cameroon, where we have 10 million subscribers."
Its new pocket license, MTN Cameroon intends to make necessary efforts to enable Cameroon to take advantage of the 3G / 4G. This, realizing "investments 4,000 billion F on the operating life of the new license," says Karl O. Toriola. It ensures that 3G will be available in 16 cities in the first year of operation. It will then be gradually extended to all cities of Cameroon. "The goal is to cover at least 75% of the population by 2018". 3G is expected to create a thousand direct jobs and hundreds of thousands of indirect jobs over the next few years. Eventually, it could represent 6% of state revenue.

History of Money

If China was the forerunner of the concept of money around 1000 BC, in the form of common and utilitarian objects is in Lydia (Asia Minor) qu'apparaîtront the first pieces between 620 and 600 BC JC numismatic art of this period of history will be brought to its peak by the Greeks in the early 5th century BC; more care is taken to manufacture the parts on which human portraits gradually replace animals.

The rise of Macedonia in the 4th century BC corresponds with the standardization of the royal effigies faces, probably imposed by the kings themselves to assert their authority over their vast territories. Conservatism of Western and Middle Eastern civilizations of the time constant practice will make this up to the end of the 3rd century AD

The other monetary developments pole, china, stands in the same period by two features: the pieces are melted instead of being beaten and contain only brief inscriptions instead of performing arts. This is explained by the fact that, on the one hand, the Chinese then used a lot foundry in their daily lives and, secondly, they were sufficiently confident in the superiority of their culture not to affirm on an object considered vulgar.

The Middle Ages, beginning in the 8th century AD, is marked by the development of both: Christianity and Islam. Its splash on cash is reflected by the prominence given to religious symbols on the coins. The slow economic progress, however, limited in number and quality.

Cultural and economic revival that is the Renaissance in the 15th century has several consequences: first, the development of trade resulting in the invention of the bill of exchange, western ancestor of the banknote (the Chinese then used already for nearly a thousand years); on the other hand, the content of parts moving towards more precious metals (gold and silver), thus allowing the exchange of goods values increasingly important.

The discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus in 1492 allows the exploitation of new gold and silver mines in the Americas. A series of innovations in the 17th and 18th century propel parts manufacturing crafts to the industrial stage. From the 17th century, European powers diffuse parts and paper money to weapons of their nations around the world. The issuance of paper money, until the case of private banks, gradually came under the control of States which, in the 19th century, will assure a near monopoly.

In Africa and the Pacific Islands, the arrival of European settlers coincides with the passage of barter system with the use of the currency.

After both world wars, currency values fall due to inflation. The gold standard, which had been adopted at the beginning of this century by most countries, in turn definitively abandoned.

The paper currency has now definitively supplanted the room as a medium of exchange. Increasingly, electronic processes, like credit cards, are set to play in turn a key role in the exchanges.
