Yai Bala Daniel: Book Review The Private Security Industry in Cameroon: History, potentials, achievements, problems and proposed solutions
Yai Bala Daniel
has broken a new ground for the Private Security Industry in Cameroon by
equipping it with its history, its potentials, its achievements, its problems
and their proposed solutions compounded in a lucid publication now in the
market. Foreworded by Senior Superintendent of Police; Nkerbu Joseph, this 120
pages vanished hard-cover-bound book provides the reader with a thorough
examination and evaluation of the Private Security Industry in Cameroon from
its inception to the present. And most importantly, this book goes the extra
mile in predicting the future of the private security industry in the country
as well as proposing the way forward.
Security has no
price tag. It is solicited by everybody without any exception. The
intelligence, sense of initiative, abnegation and experience of the author,
having served in various capacities in different Private Security companies in
Cameroon for over 16 years, has given birth to this unprecedented publication
on the sector in Cameroon. This diligently compiled research work will help amateurs
create, organise and develop their private security companies to be attractive,
viable and sustainable. Those already operating in this domain have their part
of the nectar to suck from this flower; if they scrupulously peruse this book.
As the nations
on the globe join forces to combat global crime, such coalition efforts are
equally strongly required between the public and private security services in
every nation for the provision of the Information Age standard security
services to their respective populations. Crime interferes with the security
quality of life and freedom of people and inevitably impairs development.
Therefore, the need for a solid synergy between the public and auxiliary
security services to cope with the prevailing situation is an obvious
imperative. All stakeholders who will read this book with keen interest will
derive enormous benefits for their individual and corporate bodies.
The author has
re-visited the saying that ‘security before everything’. What can one
accomplish without security? Security is more important than health because a
patient needs security before, during and after treatment. A state may claim to
secure its citizens, but the citizens themselves must first guarantee their own
private security. This is the corpus of this author’s contention in his book.
Everybody needs this book. In it, the reader is exposed to some important
clauses of the law which regulates the sector in the country, the clientele
gets to know more of the sector in order to be able to make informed choices
when it comes to choosing a viable service provider , those serving in the
industry will certainly exploit the rich content of this book to have their
capacities developed and those seeking to find jobs and build rewarding careers
for themselves in the industry will equally discover the highly utilitarian
package which the author has carefully knit together for their use.
